The new ESOTERIC A-80 monaural power amplifier (Analog, solid state, class
A/B, provides high speaker driving ability in a very compact size. Cutting edge
circuit design, highly sophisticated architecture and precise machining
technology is used, resulting in an amplifier capable of superb musical
expression.
The A-80 features a highly-rated (approx. 1k VA), custom design toroidal
transformer for its main power supply. The A-80 also includes an R-core sub
transformer for further stability. The ultra stable and rapid power supply
capability is further enhanced by two large capacitors (33,000 µF / 76 mmf x 100
mm), used in the power output stage.
The core components of the A-80 are assembled on a massive 9 mm inner
chassis, precisely machined from a solid steel block. The power supply
components are suspended from the bottom of the chassis to achieve a low
center-of-gravity. The amplification stage is attached on the top surface of the
chassis for isolation from potential vibration and magnetic flux leakage from
power supply components.
The highest grade audiophile components were selected for the A-80. Extensive
listening tests were conducted for parts selection based on component neutrality
and variations in "acoustic texture." High quality Hovland capacitors and
Vishey-Dale wire-wound resistors are used for the main circuit. High purity 6N
(99.9999%), copper is used for critical internal wiring. The speaker terminals
are WBT-0710Cu, the latest version of WBT terminals, incorporating pure copper
conductor material for high signal purity and ultra-low terminal resistance.
Signal loss is kept to a minimum with the use of these high grade audiophile
components.
The A-80 is rated at 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts per
